Tuesday is the first Election Day since Michigan voters approved the “Promote the Vote” ballot proposal last November.
For the first time no-excuse absentee balloting will be allowed for everyone. Citizens will also see the return of straight-party voting or at least they would if there were any candidates to elect.
May ballots usually only feature non-partisan school and municipal funding questions.
There are no Branch County elections scheduled for Tuesday.
Most Calhoun County voters get the day off. Residents in the Village of Burlington will be asked to restore an authorized operating millage. There are also road funding proposals on the ballot in Emmett and Leroy Townships.
Voters in Hillsdale County will be asked to approve a five year Law Enforcement Enhancement millage. If approved, taxes would go up by three-quarters of mill each year with the funds going to the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department for the hiring of additional deputies and the purchase of new equipment.
