ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Road Commission has closed two roads due to high water following the rain over the last few days.
Kelley Road between Lester and Brown Roads is closed along with Lester Road between Kelley and Phillips Roads.
High water has also been reported on Central Road between Behnke and Smith Roads as well as in the area of South Fremont and Withington Roads. Those roads are not closed but caution is urged.
A couple of weather notes from south of Branch County. A resident near Orland, Indiana has measured 2.4 inches of rain since Tuesday. In addition, Prairie Heights schools are closed for today after a lightning strike knocked out their well which means there is no water.
If you encounter high water, turn around. Don’t drive through it. A flooded engine can lead to a rather large repair bill.
The web site www.accuweather.com says Tuesday was the sixth straight day of rain in Coldwater.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Flood Advisory for portions of south central and southwest Michigan until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties are included in the advisory.
Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain overnight which will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen.
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
