LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Remember the labor dispute last year which led to a delay in the Business Loop I-69 repaving project in Branch County?
There is now labor peace as a new five-year agreement has been reached between the union representing Michigan road workers and a new association of contractors.
The Michigan Union Contractors Group and Local 234 of the Operating Engineers say the new deal will include demands they sought in their negotiations with the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association.
MITA locked out union workers last summer when they demanded a contract clause giving them the chance to negotiate with individual road contractors.
The Business Loop I-69 repaving project finally got underway during the week of October 22, 2018 and most of the work was done when the first snowfall of the season arrived. The project included the repaving of the surface from the Fenn Road exit off of I-69 to Pierce Street in downtown Coldwater.
