OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The cause of a fire which broke out Sunday afternoon at a Ovid Township home remains under investigation but officials think it started in the chimney.
The fire at 301 South Centennial which is near Central Road was reported at 1:20 p.m..
Three persons inside of the residence managed to get out safely. Lakeland Fire Chief Dave Smith says there was a lot of heavy smoke showing when crews arrived.
Lakeland was the first department on the scene. They got mutual aid from the Bronson and Coldwater fire departments in the form of manpower and tankers.
While there was heavy damage to a garage and a home addition, Smith says firefighters managed to keep the flames away from the main part of the structure.
A dollar estimate on the damage has not been figured up.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury. Crews were on the scene for almost three hours and cleared the scene just before 5:00 p.m..
