COLON, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Union City lost to Colon 6-1 in the finals of the Magi’s invitational tournament Saturday.
The Chargers advanced with a 8-2 win over Marcellus thanks to a five run second inning. In the victory over Marcellus, Connor Elgan and Cyrus Graham both had two hits. Elgan and Tate Herman both drove in two runs. Brendan Stuchell was the winning pitcher.
The Chargers were held to one hit in the title game against the Magi. Their record is now 8-5.
—Girls Softball—
Mendon defeated Union City 5-4 in the semifinals of the Colon Invitational Saturday. Autumn Carpenter had two hits for the Chargers. The consolation game between Marcellus and Union City was not played.
Quincy’s girls softball team finished second at the Parma Western Invitational Tournament Saturday.
The Orioles lost to the host school 15-10 in their first game. Mick Signor, Megan Kirt and Hayley Wineland all had two hits.
Quincy defeated Hanover-Horton 11-1 in their second game. Morgan Michael was the winning pitcher as she allowed two hits and struck out six. She got plenty of offensive support as six Orioles each collected two hits.
In the championship game after an entire day of playing in weather less than 50 degrees, Quincy lost to Parma Western once again 15-10. Wineland doubled and homered in the title game as the Orioles collected five two-baggers.
