BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson swept a baseball doubleheader against visiting Battle Creek St. Philip, holding off a late Fighting Tiger charge in the first game to prevail 12-10 before posting a 10-0 shutout in five innings in game two.
Brett Sikorski got the win in the opener, giving up 2 hits with 11 strikeouts in five innings of work; he also helped his own cause with an RBI triple, while Kameron Haviland had a double and a single and Ryan Wisman had two hits.
Haviland pitched a complete game 1-hitter with no walks and 7 strikeouts in the nightcap, while Sikorski had a single and a home run, Wisman had three hits, Brendan Withington had a single and a double, and Hudson Wotta had a double.
The Vikings improve to 11-7 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Coldwater was shut out 2-0 against visiting Pennfield on Staff Appreciation Night. On a very windy night, the Panthers scored the lone goal of the first half on a penalty kick with 24:13 to play. They scored the final goal of the game with 33:44 to play in the second half. The Lady Cards outshot Pennfield 8-2 in the second half, but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. Emily Fagen made five saves in goal as the Cardinals dropped to 2-6-1 overall, 1-2 in the Interstate 8.
Coldwater’s JVs beat Pennfield 6-1. Grace Ortiz had three goals, while Jenni Hernandez, Heidi Murphy, and Jocelyn Salto had a goal apiece.
TRACK & FIELD
Quincy’s boys finished fourth, Union City seventh, and Bronson ninth at the Union City Invitational, while on the girls side, the Orioles, Vikings, and Chargers were fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively. Olivet won both the boys and girls divisions of the meet. Bronson’s Maddy Thompson was given the Deo Olmstead MVP Award.

TODAY’S SCHEDULE
It’s a light high school sports schedule today, with Coldwater and Bronson hosting their proms at the Potawatomi Inn and Bella Vista Golf Course, respectively. Union City’s baseball and softball teams will be participating in the Darmofal Tournament at Colon, Quincy baseball plays a doubleheader at Clinton, Quincy softball is at the Western Invitational, and Coldwater will host its JV baseball invitational.
