BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Battle Creek Lakeview swept Coldwater 4-0 and 6-1 in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday. The Spartans scored all of their first game runs in the fifth inning and took control of the nightcap with a four run first inning.
The Cardinals were held to two hits in each of the two games.
The Coldwater JV baseball team lost two games to Lakeview by scores of 13-12 and 14-4 which dropped their record to 10-6. They will host Angola on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in their J.V. Invitational.
Union City swept a doubleheader from arch rival Athens 8-2 and 9-6 Thursday at Alumni Field. The Chargers scored five runs in the second inning of the opener. Avery Stuart drove in two runs. Tate Herman went six innings on the mound to get the win.
Once again, a five-run second inning helped the Chargers win the second game. Lane Blowers had two hits while Larson Kever drove in two runs. Trey Herman was the winning pitcher.
Girls Softball—
Coldwater split a non-conference doubleheader at Battle Creek Lakeview. They rallied to win the opener 10-8 before losing the nightcap 15-12. Coldwater trailed 8-2 after five innings in the opener before they scored eight unanswered runs to pull out the victory. Abby Herman and Autumn Sunderland both drove in three runs while Mallory Wilber, Sunderland and Mallory Kissinger all had two hits. Kassidy Bishop was the winning pitcher.
Alyssa Bach had three hits and four RBI’s in the second game for the Cardinals while Josie Hilton drove in three runs with a bases loaded double.
Athens used a six-run fourth inning to defeat Union City 8-4 in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game ended in an 8-8 tie after five innings. Payton James had three hits for the Chargers in the first game.
Autumn Carpenter collected three hits in the second game while Sydney Markley had three RBI’s.
