Patricia Shepler-Carter, 92, passed away Friday, April 6, 2021 at The Villa in Marshall, under the care of Oaklawn Hospice.
A private graveside service will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
Pat and her twin brother, Peter, were born in Mendon, Michigan on March 17, 1929 to Frederick and Goldie Mae (DeHoff) Denney. She married Orval G. Shepler in November of 1947. He passed away in 2004. She later married Lawrence (Ted) E. Carter, who passed away in 2018.
Patricia graduated from Colon High School. She had been employed at the Colon Bank; Nottawa Gardens of Athens; the Federal Separation Center at Fort Custer; and worked at the business they owned, the W.A. Wilson Body Shop in Athens.
She served six years on the Athens School Board, including one year as Board President. Pat was a member for many years of the First Congregational Church of Athens, serving as a Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, and the church moderator. More recently, she was a member of the UCC Congregational Church in Union City.
After Pat married Ted Carter, they spent winters in Florida, where she learned to play golf. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and other card games, and in earlier years, snowmobiling and gardening.
Pat is survived by her three children: Steven J. (Holly Palmer) Shepler of Drummond Island, MI and Scottsdale, AZ, Kitty Rae (Terry) Sherman of Vicksburg, and Kathie Ann (John) Powers of Marshall; one grandson, Joshua (Sarah) Sherman of St. Louis, MO; and two great-grandsons, Victor and Finnegan; Additionally, she had two step-grandchildren, John R. Powers and Elizabeth (Mike) Bendickson of Valparaiso, and their children, Audrey and William; two step-sons, Gary Carter of Battle Creek and Larry (Vicki) Carter of Elkhart, IN and 12-step grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Dolores Loker of Fulton; her twin brother’s wife, Darlene Denney of Athens; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
