COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved the purchase of vehicles for the county complex and the Sheriff’s Department Tuesday.
County Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker said Complex Manager Scott Walls needed to replace a 2005 Ford F-350 truck.
The vehicle is used for snow plowing and carries the salt spreader but the box of the truck is rusted out and is unsafe to stand in. It was estimated it needed over $3,700 worth of repairs.
Three bids were submitted. Commissioners approved the low bid of just over $28,500 to be paid out of capital outlay for a 2019 F-350 truck.
The Commissioners also approved a request from the Sheriff’s Office to purchase a 2019 SUV to replace a vehicle which was totaled during a recent traffic stop.
The new vehicle cost just under $30,000. The insurance company paid about $13,000. The nearly $17,000 difference will be taken out of capital outlay.
The damaged vehicle was stopped when it was struck by another driver in the area of Girard and Union City Roads because of slick driving conditions in late March. No one was injured.
