ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A former track and cross country coach in Fremont, Indiana and a 1994 Coldwater High School graduate has admitted his guilt to having an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship with a former Fremont High School athlete.
A Steuben County Circuit Court spokesperson says 43-year-old Moses Castillo entered a guilty plea to one of five counts of Child Seduction on Monday during a final pre-trial conference. He was scheduled to go trial May 15.
The other four counts would be dismissed if the plea agreement is accepted by Judge Allen Wheat during a hearing June 3, 2019.
The charges against Castillo are Level 5 felonies which in Indiana carry a maximum prison sentence of six years.
Terms of the plea agreement call for a maximum incarceration of two years. The amount of probation has yet to be determined.
Castillo was charged in connection with alleged incidents that according to court documents started in 2015 with a female cross country runner.
His arrest took place after an investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office. Fremont School Superintendent Doctor William Stitt said the district found out about the alleged relationship in December 2017.
Castillo, who had been coaching in Fremont for 20 years, resigned after the allegation was reported to authorities. He was not employed as a teacher or staff member in Fremont at the time.
Castillo was twice named the Class 1A Coach of the Year by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
