COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that a jail committee continues to meet every two weeks as plans continue to be developed for a new Branch County Jail.
Norman says the emphasis has been on the design. The pod is mostly complete but there have been changes in the administration section.
Norman said geotechnical work which included the taking of soil samples at the proposed site of the new jail has been completed and county officials are awaiting a final report.
Requests for proposals on construction services and survey work have been sent out and further information will be brought to Commissioners in the near future.
While the old jail will be demolished once the new jail opens, the county plans to retain a nearby storage barn and another building north of the animal control building.
