COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved an agreement with GRP Engineering Tuesday night for the costs associated with engineering the proposed $4.6 million Butters Avenue substation.
CBPU Director Jeff Budd said in his memo to the board that the proposed substation will improve the utility’s electrical system reliability.
Construction is scheduled to be finished by September 2020. Budd says GRP was the engineer on the Jonesville Substation and they were very happy with the results. GRP will charge the CBPU $196,000 for their work on the proposed Butters substation.
Meanwhile, the CBPU Board approved a resolution which starts the bond financing process for the proposed substation which Budd says will reallocate load from the Garfield Avenue and Bennett Street Substations.
Budd says while the resolution states it is not to exceed an amount of $6.5 million, the amount is purposely set high for any unforeseen costs.
The final actual amount to be financed has to be approved by both the CBPU Board and the Coldwater City Council.
