BYRON CENTER, MI (WTVB) – SpartanNash has issued a statement after the news broke on Friday that the Coldwater Family Fare store at 410 Marshall Street will be closing next month.
SpartanNash Director of Corporate Communications Allison Benczkowski said in a statement released on Saturday,
“SpartanNash and Family Fare have proudly served the Coldwater community for more than 60 years – originally as a Felpausch store and, since 2007, as a Family Fare. Recently, we made the difficult decision to close our Coldwater Family Fare, with our final day of operation scheduled for mid-May. This closure is a business decision based on our continuous evaluation of our retail footprint and what is best for our more than 150 corporate-owned stores, our associates and the communities we serve. While it is never an easy decision to close a store, this is not a reflection on our dedicated associates or their commitment to serving our customers. In fact, we are working with our 37 store associates to find employment at our surrounding Family Fare stores in Marshall and Albion.”
Sources have told WTVB News the store will be closing on May 21 and that the store pharmacy is closing next Wednesday, April 14.
According to the company’s web site, SpartanNash currently operates more than 150 corporate-owned grocery stores in nine states, and distributes to more than 2,100 independent locations throughout the country.
Their primary retail banners include Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s Grocery and Dan’s Supermarket.
