COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Council of Branch County planted about 100 blue and silver pinwheels at the Branch County Courthouse this week in order to bring awareness to the number of substantiated child abuse cases in the county.
There were 173 substantiated cases of child abuse in Branch County during 2018 out of 753 total investigations.
Statistics also showed that 103 children were placed in foster care while 59 were removed from families.
The pinwheels have also been planted at the Branch County Sheriff’s Office as well as at the Chicago Street School in Bronson, the welcoming sign on the west side of Quincy and at PNC Bank on East Chicago Street in Coldwater.
Meanwhile, everyone entering the Branch County Courthouse Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be reminded about crime and its impact on our lives during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
Kim Hemker from the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence told Branch County Commissioners last week they will have a display in the Courthouse rotunda from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on those three days.
