COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The long awaited renovation project at the Branch Area Careers Center has finally gotten the green light after several years of discussions.
The Branch Intermediate School District Board of Education approved a series of contractor bids for the $5.9 million project during a special meeting on Monday.
A total of 17 contractor bids came in at just over $4.1 million with 15 of the bids coming from Michigan firms.
Two of the contractors are from Quincy. Bracy and Jahr will perform the masonry work while Lukazcek Engineering will be the earthwork contractor.
The work will include the installation of a new elevator, creating new classrooms in an existing mezzanine, adding a new counseling suite and reworking the existing kitchen.
Two alternates were included for classroom and training room additions on the south side of the school.
Tower Pinkster is the project architect while CSM Group will be the construction manager.
Rob Rohlman from CSM said they plan to start by the end of the month and they are targeting the end of 2021 for completion.
He added crews will work during the second shift after students are out of the facility.
