COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As local school districts continue to prepare for portential emergency situations, the Branch Intermediate School District will be doing the work in-house. BISD Superintendent Kris Jenkins told the district’s Board of Education Wednesday they will put an emergency operations plan in place without outside help.
Districts around Michigan must have a physical security assessment done by October after a State of Michigan task force issued a series of recommendations for school safety.
Jenkins said the decision to have the BISD take care of its own plan came after a couple of recent meetings. A committee will be put together to look over the plan.
A total of 29 recommendations have been made by the task force for schools to implement.
Coldwater Community Schools will have Compliance One of Kalamazoo work on their emergency operation plans.
Compliance One offered a quote of over $33,000. Grants are available from the state for local districts to help offset the costs.
