COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater has scheduled the ribbon cutting for the new youth baseball and softball fields at Heritage Park for Friday May 17, 2019 at 12 noon.
The Coldwater City Council approved a bid last May of just under $727,000 that was submitted by Parrish Excavating of Quincy for the new diamonds.
While Parrish had the low bid of just over $879,000, it was in excess of the available budget. Parrish agreed to make what turned out to be about $182,000 worth of changes in order to bring the costs down.
The new ball fields on Northshore Drive are being put it because the current Little League diamonds will be the future site of the new fourth and fifth grade building for Coldwater Community Schools following the approval of a millage and bonding proposal.
The old Little League diamonds reverted back to the City of Coldwater in the fall of 2016 when the Coldwater Little League Board voted to dissolve. The land was later sold to Coldwater Community Schools.
Baker also reported that Morgan Miller’s mural design will be painted on the bathhouse wall adjacent to the Rotary Splash Park during the month of June after she was recently won a contest. Marshall based artist Kimber Thompson will paint the mural over the course of two weekends.
