BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings and the Quincy Orioles girls softball teams had the brooms working on Tuesday as they recorded Big 8 Conference doubleheader sweeps.
Bronson swept Springport by scores of 13-1 and 10-0. Lynsey Smith and Addison Harris were the winning pitchers. Smith struck out nine in four innings of work in the first game. Harris allowed two hits and struck out four in the second game which ended after five innings.
Karissa Gest collected three hits in the opener for Bronson. She along with Haylie Wilson and Harris all tripled.
Maddie Ratkowski had three hits in the second game while Paige Roussey, Jaydn Cary, Smith and Helena Eley all drove in two runs.
Bronson Coach Becky Gray said, “I felt the girls came out to play tonight. Every league game is important so I am happy we could pick up 2 league wins tonight.”
The Vikings are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8.
Quincy swept Branch County rival Union City 19-0 and 15-0. Quincy’s Payton Gross had two triples and three RBI’s in the first game. Hayley Wineland had two doubles. Winning pitcher Morgan Michael struck out seven in three innings of work.
Gross was the winning pitcher in the second game as she threw three perfect innings. Michael collected three hits as the Orioles improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
