BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – It will be a Branch County high school boys basketball showdown for the Division Three district title in Bronson Friday night after the host Vikings and the Union City Chargers advanced with one point victories Wednesday night.
Hudson Wotta hit a pair of foul shots with 2.5 seconds left as the Vikings defeated Vermontville Maple Valley 62-61. Brett Sikorski led the Vikings with 13 points while Wotta finished with 12 points.
Larson Kever’s three point bucket with 1:40 left proved to be the winner as Union City defeated Delton-Kellogg 36-35 and improved to their record to 15-7. Kever finished with a game-high 22 points.
Bronson plays Union City for the district title at 6:00 p.m. Friday.
Division Three at Reading
Quincy 69, Homer 51
The Quincy Orioles avenged their only Big 8 Conference loss as they defeated the Homer 69-51 in the Division Three District semifinals at Reading. Quincy got another measure of revenge after the Trojans beat them in the district finals last season. Quincy put the game away in the first half as they built a 37-19 lead. The Orioles shot 59 percent from the floor as they improved to 18-3.
Will Dunn and Jordan Nelson both scored 18 points as Dunn overcame a nagging ankle injury. Caleb McCavit added 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Quincy plays Hanover-Horton at 7:00 p.m. Friday night for the district title after Hanover-Horton defeated Reading 76-44 in the other semifinal.
