COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman laid out for the county Board of Commissioners during their Thursday work session the timeline over the next few months for work on the new county jail.
Byce and Associates was hired by commissioners last month for $1.2 million to be the architects and engineers for the new jail.
Norman said during a recent lengthy meeting with corrections officers and other workers there were some concerns expressed about the placement of the facility which would be built near the current county jail.
Those concerns included the length of utilities and the filling of the land. A summary of concerns will be presented to Commissioners at a later date.
Commissioners will eventually be asked to approve a pair of Request For Proposals covering a survey, the environmental impact and geotechnical work.
Also during the process, a schematic design will be presented to the board.
If everything goes according to plan, the jail is expected to be occupied late in the summer of 2020.
