COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One month after Pennfield’s Kyle Ligget sank a game-winning buzzer beater to beat Coldwater, Ryne Petersen used a jump shot at the buzzer to lift the Panthers to a 51-49 win against the Cardinals. The Cards led 26-18 at halftime, but Pennfield used a 17-7 third quarter to take a 35-33 lead into the final frame. Dylan Targgart led Coldwater with 17 points and 5 rebounds, while Gage McGuire had 13 points and 8 boards. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Austin Santure, also pulled down 8 rebounds. Ryne Petersen led all scorers with 19 points for Pennfield, while Keagan Burns added 17. Coldwater drops to 12-5 overall, while Pennfield improves to 11-6; both teams are now tied for second in the Interstate 8 at 8-4.
Quincy got back on track following a 2-game mini-losing streak with a 49-39 win at Jonesville. The Comets held a slight 11-10 lead after the first quarter, but the Orioles took control with an 11-3 second quarter. William Dunn led Quincy with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Caleb McCavit had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. The Orioles improved to 15-2 overall, 11-1 in the Big 8, and maintain a 2-game lead over Homer atop the league standings.
Union City held off Bronson 54-45. Larson Kever led all scorers with 19 points for Union City. Brendan Stuchell scored 13 and Carson Stanton added 10 as the Chargers improved to 12-6 overall, 8-4 in the Big 8. Blaine Robinson led Bronson with 13 points; Graham Eley had 11 and Hudson Wotta added 10 as the Vikings dropped to 2-16 overall, 2-10 in the Big 8.

HS GIRLS BASKETBALL
After giving up the first basket of the game, Coldwater uncorked the next 23 points and never looked back as they cruised to a 74-37 win against Pennfield at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium, one day after knocking off defending Interstate 8 champion Jackson Northwest to open up a two-game lead in the league standings. Carlee Crabtree had 18 points; our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Emilee Smoker, had her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Olivia Foley had 13 first-half points as the Cardinals improved to 15-1 overall; at 12-0 in the Interstate 8 with two league games left, Coldwater has clinched at least a share of the Interstate 8 championship.
Quincy trailed Jonesville 18-11 at the half, but used a 16-6 third quarter to lift themselves to a 34-31 road win. Hannah Clark had 11 points, and Jessica Holcomb had 9 points and 5 rebounds as the Orioles improve to 8-8 overall, 4-7 in the Big 8.
Keona Salesman had 16 points and 6 rebounds to lead Bronson to a 65-33 win against Union City. Meagan Lasky added 10 points as the Vikings improve to 10-5 overall, 9-2 in the Big 8. Autumn Carpenter and Logan Allen had 9 points apiece for the Chargers, who fall to 3-12 overall, 1-9 in the Big 8.
