COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In a battle of league powers, Coldwater’s Lady Cardinals took a firm hold on the Interstate 8 conference lead with a 52-44 victory over the visiting Jackson Northwest Thursday.
Coldwater used a 14-7 second quarter to open up an eight point halftime lead that they would never relinquish to improve to 11-0 in conference play while the Mounties dropped to 9-2.
Samantha Rodesiler went 4 of 4 from the free throw line in the final 40 seconds to seal the win. Carlee Crabtree led the Cardinal scoring attack with 18 points while Emilee Smoker had 12 points to go along with six rebounds.
The win puts Coldwater at 14-1 overall.

In boys basketball, the Coldwater Cardinals have dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season after they were beaten at Jackson Northwest 63-55 Thursday night.
Ethan Crabtree led Coldwater with 17 points while Dylan Targgart added 16 points. Austin Santure grabbed nine rebounds. Damon Beckhusen scored eight points, had eight rebounds and five assists.
The Cardinals dropped to 12-4 overall and 8-3 in the Interstate 8.

===MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL===
The St. Charles Cougars defeated Trinity Lutheran of Sturgis 28-14 on Thursday night which moves the Cougars to 5-0 on the season. The Cougars were led in scoring by Brady Mescher with eight points, Hunter Scheidler followed with six points and Logan Stritzinger with five points, four other Cougars helped with the scoring.
The team will play February 21 at St. Mary’s in Bronson against the team from Factoryville Christian. The Sturgis Christian League tournament will be Saturday, February 23 with play beginning at 12:30 p.m..
