GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson woman was killed Monday morning when according to the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, her vehicle went through a stop sign at the intersection of River and Union City Roads and crashed into another vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Department says 79-year-old Janet Danklefsen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Their investigation indicated that Danklefsen’s vehicle was heading north on River Road at about 9:35 a.m. when it failed to stop at the Union City Road intersection and collided with a eastbound vehicle driven by 30-year-old Luke Renshaw of Union City.
Danklefsen’s vehicle ended up about 200 feet northeast of the intersection in a corn field where it burst into flames.
Witnesses stopped to pull her from the burning vehicle. C.P.R. was performed on Danklefsen but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
Renshaw was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.
The area near the intersection of River and Union City Roads was shut down during the crash investigation.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Coldwater Fire Department, Lifecare Ambulance and the Branch County Road Commission.
