KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A call to action against Kalamazoo’s Y-Bar and Bistro will continue all week after allegations of drink tampering surfaced last week.
It all began when a video posted on TikTik by a Western Michigan University student went viral. The woman claiming that she and over a dozen other women had been slipped multiple drugs after visiting the bar. Since then, an online petition has been launched and a protest also took place at Y-Bar and Bistro late Monday afternoon. Alyssa McDonald, a protest organizer, says she wanted to help give people a voice and a place to unite about the situation..
Kalamazoo Police Chief Vernon Coakley says several detectives have been assigned to this case. The owner of the bar has repeatedly denied all the allegations, but has also said very little else and has avoided communication with several local media outlets.
Participants say more protests will happen each business day this week outside the Y Bar and Bistro from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..
