Zachary Jayson Gibson, 40, of Union City, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Spectrum Health Blodgett in Grand Rapids.
Following cremation, a public celebration of life will be held later in the summer of 2021.
Zach was born on April 25, 1980 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Ronald J. and Susan L. (Pauley) Gibson. He grew up in Union City and received his high school diploma from Harper Creek Community Schools. He volunteered to help his parents working in the family businesses. He could be found in the kitchen at the Victoria Villa or at the Daily Grind Coffee Café, both in beautiful downtown Union City.
Zach was very active in school activities. He was a well-loved participant in the Special Olympics, where he competed in soccer, cross country skiing, and gymnastics. The judges just loved to see Zach perform. Zach was sweet, innocent, loving son and brother. He was intelligent, articulate, and was always a gentleman. His perception and understanding was well beyond what many gave him credit for.
He was an icon in the Union City community. He welcomed everyone into the Daily Grind with a bright smile, a hug or a firm handshake, and a “How are you doing?” His kindness and bright outlook on life was infectious. To know Zach was to love him. His passing will leave a hole in his community that can never be filled.
In addition to his parents, Ronald and Susan Gibson of Union City, Zach is also survived by his younger brother, Joshua Gibson of Union City, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in Illinois, and his many cats; including his favorite kitty “Pansy.” Zach was adored by his entire family.
He was preceded in death by all four of his grandparents, 2 aunts, and an infant cousin.
Memorial contributions in memory of Zach can be made to Animal Aid of Branch County, 217 N. Fiske Rd., Coldwater, MI 49036.
