COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater is asking residents to keep snow and ice three feet away from fire hydrants while they are out shoveling driveways and sidewalks.
Keeping the area around the hydrant clear of snow can save countless seconds in the event of an emergency.
Firefighters need to locate and get to a hydrant quickly in order to protect people and property.
It can also help the city’s water department locate hydrants that may be buried in the event of a frozen pipe or water main.
Coldwater City Hall and the Coldwater Board of Public Utiltities offices also closed early at 1:00 p.m. Monday, and the Coldwater City Council meeting for Monday evening is cancelled.
