COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – If you think it’s cold now, you haven’t seen anything yet. The way things are set up, we could be seeing some of the coldest weather in several years in the middle of next week.
Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph, and Steuben counties are currently under a Wind Chill Advisory until 1:00 p.m. Friday. The high temperature for Friday should be 10 degrees, with a high Saturday around 15 degrees.
But National Weather Service forecasters say a brutishly cold air mass entrenched in northern Canada will blast south at the beginning of next week. The extremely cold air is expected to take hold Tuesday night with lows near 10 below zero.
Highs Wednesday will be near zero before temperatures will drop to near 15 below on Wednesday night. The extreme cold will hang around Thursday with highs only near five above.
Wind chills from Tuesday night through at least Thursday will drop to as low as 35 degrees below zero. Exposed skin in that of cold can be frost bitten in no more than 10 minutes.
Forecasters are expecting many long standing record to fall. All time cold records may also be threatened.
