UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Both the Bronson Vikings and the Union City Chargers won a pair of matches Wednesday night as they wrapped up the Big Eight Conference portion of their schedules. Bronson wrapped up an undefeated conference season as they defeated Homer 60-5 and Concord 66-6.
Union City defeated Concord 46-18 and Homer 48-21. Members of the 1996, 1997 and 1998 Union City wrestling teams were honored on Wednesday night as served as honorary captains for the Chargers.
It was also senior night for the Chargers. Winning two matches for the Vikings were Ben Modert, Preston Wronikowski, Brendan Withington, Aricin Smith, Craig Tappenden, Isaac Tappenden, Ruger Ranney, J.C. DePaz, Justin Blakenship and Carson Rose.
Double winners for the Chargers were Andrew Linnabury Smith, Everett Korn, Connor Banks, Deacon Day and Brayton Burgett.
—CANCELLATIONS—
The icy weather conditions pretty much blew up the Branch County high school sports schedule for Wednesday. Coldwater’s home wrestling match with Harper Creek was rescheduled for next Wednesday, January 30th. Quincy’s wrestling match at Jonesville was postponed until Thursday night. The Union City girl’s basketball game at Springport was postponed until February 18.
The Interstate 8 Conference cheerleading jamboree at Harper Creek was postponed until Monday. Bronson’s bowling match with Comstock was cancelled. Quincy also had their bowling match called off.
