COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While the last of the weekend snowfall clean-up continues, dangerously cold temperatures took center stage across Branch County Monday.
The temperature dropped to -15 in the 5:00 a.m. hour at the Branch Coutn Memorial Airport, breaking the previous record low of -11 for January 21.
The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory from Sunday afternoon through Monday at 12 noon.
Snowfall totals ranged from between six and eight inches late Saturday afternoon after the snow started to fall at about 7:30 p.m. Friday night. One National Weather Service observer in Three Rivers reported 10 inches of snow, while another at Constantine reported nine-and-a-half inches. Six inches of snow was reported at Litchfield. A pair of listeners both measured eight inches of snow in Coldwater.
Plows from the Branch County Road Commission and City of Coldwater Department of Municipal Services were out at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
While several events were called off and driving was difficult due to the slick roads, Branch County Emergency Management Coordinator Tim Miner called the storm a nuisance.
Luckily, the storm hit at a time when schools and most businesses were closed. Strong winds and frigid temperatures moved in after the snow stopped.
