COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners agreed during their work session Thursday to bring forward to next week’s regular meeting a pair of requests from the Prosecutors Office to fill staff vacancies.
Commissioner Terri Norris said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Valerie White wants to fill the full time Child Support Coordinator position at a starting salary of $13.83 per hour.
White is also looking to fill the vacant misdemeanor clerk position at a starting hourly rate of $12.77. Both positions would get new hire benefits.
Commissioners also voted to bring a couple of requests from Commission on Aging Executive Director Amy Duff forward to next week’s meeting.
One request would be the creation of a new part time contractual maintenance position.
Duff said they have been without an inmate worker from the Sheriff’s Department for daily labor since last February due to a lack of qualified inmates. Duff said the COA felt they could have their needs served better with a paid position.
Whoever is hired would perform such duties as light maintenance and janitorial work at the Burnside Senior Center.
Duff told commissioners this will be a one year pilot project which will pay between $12 and $14 an hour. Funds have already been allocated in the COA’s 2019 budget.
She is also asking commissioners to keep the bookkeeper position at 40 hours a week as it has been for the past year instead of the traditional 35 hours which will allow for the creation of the new maintenance assistant contracted position.
