COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Teachers throughout Branch County will be spending their professional development day Monday with Dr. Stephanie Grant, who is a developmental psychologist and licensed professional counselor.
She will be working with teachers on creating a Trauma Informed Community. In a YouTube video posted by the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District, Dr. Grant says outside of standardized testing, student behavior problems is one of the primary reasons teachers and educators cite for burnout and quitting the field.
She says experiences children get in their early years drive their brain development.
After spending the day with teachers, Dr. Grant will be hosting an event that is free and open to the public. She will continue the discussion about creating a Trauma Informed Community.
The Coldwater Free Methodist Church will be hosting a free chili supper at 4:45 p.m. and then Dr. Grant’s two hour presention will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Dearth Community Center in Coldwater. Registration is required by calling (517) 278-7233.
