COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a request from City Manager Keith Baker Monday night to submit an application for a grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation that would help fund repairs to Allen Avenue.
Baker says Allen Avenue which serves a number of trucks and employee traffic every day is in poor condition. He points out local industries served by the road have invested $17 million in buildings and equipment while maintaining 60 jobs in the community.
That investment qualifies the city for Transportation Economic Development Funds from MDOT. The grant the city is seeking requires a 20 percent local match which will come out to just under $79,000. The money will be budgeted from the city’s Major Street or South Industrial Park TIF Fund.
In other business, the Council gave final approval in regards to the leasing of the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities property at 168 Division Street to the Michigan South Central Power Agency.
They also approved the introduction of an ordinance which would amend the city’s drug paraphernalia ordinance. City Attorney Megan Angell says the amendment would expand the exceptions to the local ordinance which covers the possession, use, manufacturing and sale of marijuana paraphernalia to the extent that it is now permitted by state law.
