BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Both of the Coldwater basketball teams are in first place in the Interstate 8 heading into Friday night’s varsity doubleheader at Pennfield. Both teams are 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. As usual, the girls game starts at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.. Boys JV’s…Coldwater 61, Pennfield 31. Lu LeBron scored a game high 27 points for the Cardinals while DeAndre Douglas added 10 points.
Boys Freshmen…Coldwater 50, Pennfield 23. Jett Galloway led Coldwater with 10 points while Kyle Sheppard and Gavin Budd both had nine points.
Girls JV’s…Coldwater 57, Pennfield 26 Abby Herman led Coldwater with 17 points while Brooke Moore had 13 points and three steals and Allison Miller had 12 points and six rebounds.
Girls Freshmen…Coldwater 31, Pennfield 23 Anna DeMeester and Jayla Foster both had seven points while McKenna Stewart had six points for the Cardinals.
In another girls/boys varsity doubleheader tonight, Bronson will be at Union City. The Quincy girls will host Jonesville while the Quincy boys have the night off.
Meanwhile, the Coldwater and Bronson J.V. Wrestling teams will compete at Three Rivers.
Last night in area basketball action, Tekonsha won their fourth straight game as they defeated Waldron 53-36. Anthony Layne and A.J. Crisp both had 13 points for the Indians who improved to 5-5. Tekonsha has won five of their last six games after starting the season 0-4.
