COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater-Quincy Small Urban Task Force prioritized road projects on Wednesday for funding over Fiscal Years 2021, 2022 and 2023 that they will apply for through the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Small Urban Program.
Work on Marshall Road between State and Jonesville Roads will top the priority list for 2021 followed by Liberty Street in Quincy and Butters Road in Coldwater.
Fred Nagler from the Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study said the Small Urban Task Force is set up to help plan and program federal aid for small rural areas in the state with amounts being awarded of up to $375,000 every other year.
Branch County Road Commission Manager Trent Arver said the Marshall Road work would cost $650,000 so they would be looking at getting the maximum grant.
Liberty would be the top priority project in 2022 and 2023 followed by Union City Road and Butters Avenue in Coldwater. Barry and Main Streets in Quincy would the fourth priority in all three years with River Road fifth.
One of the local projects that is being funded this year through the program is the reconstruction on South Jefferson between U.S. 12 and Park Street in Coldwater.
The local match for the grants is at least 20 percent. Applications for the funding have to be submitted by February 1.
