ROCKFORD, MI (WTVB) – In high schiool gymnastics, Coldwater recorded their highest team score in almost a decade Saturday as they finished seventh out of 16 teams at the Rockford Flip-Flop Invitational.
The Cardinals recorded a team score of 131.25 and earned its third straight team regional qualifying score. They need only one more to advance to the MHSAA regional meet as a team. Layla Schoch, competing in the all-around for the first time, made a huge debut, placing in three events and the all-around to grab a medal for her fourth place finish in Division One.
Abby Travelbee earned two medals for her efforts and finished fifth. McKenna Hantz was 14th in Division Two while Erica Rodgers was 16th.
Schoch finished fifth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.15. Erica Rodgers was tenth in her division with a score of 7.925.
Travelbee led the Cardinals on balance beam with a score of 8.35 points. She also had the top Coldwater score in floor exercise at 8.625.
In the meantime, the gymnasts have been preparing for their Stick It Competition and will host the first of 5 youth gymnastics lessons on Wednesday in the auxiliary gymnasium. Contact the CHS Athletic office for information at 517-279-5931.
