MARSHALL, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert says police were justified when they shot a 30-year-old man at his home in the 700 block of West Hanover Street in Marshall on July 10.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports Gilbert said in a six page statement that, “the officers acted in lawful self defense of themselves and/or others after being put in a potentially deadly situation.”
The man who was shot survived and is out of the hospital.
Officers from the Marshall Police Department and a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy went to the home to facilitate a mental health order from Calhoun County Probate Court to transport the individual to Oaklawn Hospital for treatment.
The Enquirer reported that according to a Michigan State Police investigation, the man pointed a gun at two officers but did not fire the .38 special revolver.
