BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack told the Bronson City Council on Monday night that the skeleton of the new Branch County Jail is now in place.
He said construction work has been moving along for over the last month since the first steel went up on July 6 which was a day Pollack said workers managed to put up 10 beams.
Pollack also reported during the Council’s in person meeting at the Farmers Market Pavilion that some inmates tried to break out of the old jail as three cement blocks were dug out. He said those inmates will be charged with escape.
He also said some inmates recently flooded the toilets with towels but that won’t happen in the new jail since every cell will be on a valve that can be controlled by corrections officers.
The new jail is scheduled to be opened in September of 2021. Pollack says the address will be 379 Keith Wilhelm Drive is named after the former Branch County Sheriff.
