BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Saying more time was needed to get the required personal protective equipment and computers, officials in the Coldwater, Bronson and Quincy school districts as well as the Branch Intermediate School District and Pansophia Academy have decided to delay the start of in- person classes for the 2020-2021 school year until September 8.
Classes were originally scheduled to start August 24.
The announcement on Tuesday morning does not affect Union City Community Schools where classes are still scheduled to start Wednesday, August 26.
Officials apologized for the late notification and they added the decision was not made easily. It was noted in the letter it was found the required PPE and computers were hard to get in a timely manner and that many of the orders are due to come in close to September first.
The school officials feel this extra time will allow staff members to be prepared for the new safety guidelines in their plans and to get supplies in for the start of the school year.
Updated school calendars will be released soon but the winter and spring breaks as well as Farmer’s Day will remain as previously scheduled on the common calendar.
