UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City has announced a compost dumpster is now available for Village residents only Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. while space lasts.
The dumpster is at the Union City Department of Public Works on Coldwater Road (across from Hoaths Auto) and is a blue “Republic” Dumpster.
According to a post on the village’s Facebook page, the dumpster is only for yard waste, leaves, and small brush.
The dumpster will be available seasonally from the spring through the fall and is clearly marked with signage.
The premises is monitored by video and violators who dump trash, building material, tires, furniture or anything non-compost related will be prosecuted for illegal dumping and made to clean up their items.
Users must Union City residents who live in the one square mile of the village. Those who use the dumpster are asked to bring identification showing address as crews will check from time to time.
Due to wide spread abuse and the illegal dumping of several items, the village closed its compost site on M-60 last September in order to comply with state regulations and standards.
