BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County voters approved a request from the Branch County Commission on Aging to renew a ten year renewal of a millage that was approved in 2010 during Tuesday’s Primary.
The previously voted total limitation is 0.2424 of one (1) mill. The millage will raise an estimated $360,000 for the Branch County Commission on Aging senior center in the first calendar year of the levy based on taxable value.
Meanwhile, Sherwood Township voters approved a zoning referendum which amends the Township Zoning ordinances by adding a new section regarding Wind Energy Conversion Systems. The follows the controversy in recent years over the placing of wind turbines in northwestern Branch County.
Voters in Bronson Township approved a one mill increase for the next five years for fire protection and equipment. The increase will raise an estimated $30,000 in the first year.
Voters in the Athens Area School District which includes Sherwood Township renewed 18 mills for operations as well as a sinking fund millage of three mills for the next five years for the construction or repair of school buildings.
