HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – In person learning will be delayed for students in Hillsdale County until after Labor Day.
In a letter from the Hillsdale Intermediate School District, it was announced that the Common Calendar for the start of in-person learning has been changed from August 19 to Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
It was stated that more time was needed to make sure all schools are prepared for staff and students with adequate safety equipment, training for staff and other requirements mandated by the Governor.
Officials have found out that personal protective equipment (PPE) that is required is hard to get in a timely manner and that some items have been backordered.
Districts are working with vendors, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, Hillsdale Hospital and the Hillsdale County Community Foundation to secure equipment needed for students and staff to return safely. All schools are also finalizing their reopening school plans that will be adopted by each school’s Board of Education.
The letter goes on to state that the superintendents feel this extra time will allow staff to be prepared on new safety guidelines and get supplies in to start the school year.
