BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Two seats on the Branch Board of Commissioners will be fought for during next Tuesday’s Republican Primary.
Second district incumbent Leonard Kolcz is being challenged by Michael Thyng. That district covers the City of Bronson as well as Batavia, Bethel, Bronson, Gilead, Matteson and Noble Townships.
Kolcz will be seeking his third term on the Commission. Thyng retired from the Michigan State Police earlier this year after serving as a Trooper for over 30 years.
Jon Houtz will face Greg Ware for the fourth district seat currently occupied by County Commission Chair Ted Gordon who decided not to seek another term.
The seat encompasses the first, second and third wards in the City of Coldwater.
Houtz is trying to reclaim the seat he lost to Gordon in the 2016 G.O.P. Primary. Ware is a former Branch County Sheriff’s Department Deputy who served the department for almost two decades.
Tim Stoll is the only candidate for the first district seat which is being given up by Terri Norris who is running for County Prosecutor. Third District Commissioner Tom Matthew and Fifth District Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker are both running unopposed.
