CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners says they are unable to ask the county prosecutor to resign because doing so is banned by state law.
Commissioners had been asked by nearly two dozen members of the community to take that action, as Prosecutor John McDonough was arrested for allegedly driving drunk in May. The Three Rivers News reports McDonough and Chief Assistant Prosecutor Josh Robare answered several questions from commissioners during a meeting Wednesday.
McDonough has been out of the office because of illness but he told commissioners his doctors anticipate clearing him for work and releasing him medically at the beginning of September.
No trial date has been set in the drunk driving case and McDonough is on the Tuesday Republican primary ballot.
