QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Community School Superintendent Marc Kramer announced on Wednesday that the Quincy High School in person graduation ceremony scheduled this Sunday will be cancelled.
In a prior survey, Kramer said members of the Class of 2020 ranked a full in-person ceremony with parents and students near the top of their list.
But after communicating with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, the district still cannot host an event with more than 100 people in attendance outdoors which is one of the COVID-19 protocols set by the State of Michigan.
Kramer said they waited for Governor Whitmer’s press conference on Tuesday before a decision was made as the limit on the number of people in attendance had not been changed.
Quincy had a drive-up graduation on May 31 as Seniors got their diplomas at that time.
A Senior Parade and a Virtual Senior Tribute which featured a speech from 1995 Quincy High School grad and national entertainment reporter Jill Dobson also took place on that day.
A survey of students found that many had other commitments this summer including some enlisting in the military. School officials wanted to make sure that they give everyone an opportunity to be honored on May 31 which was the original date of the graduation ceremony.
