BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force in Coldwater is announcing the arrest of a Battle Creek man in a child exploitation case.
34-year-old Jay Reil of Battle Creek is facing charges of Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.
Reil was arrested following an investigation that stemmed from a National Center For Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) tip. The investigation was initiated when it was learned that Reil was conversing with a minor female for sexual purposes, and sharing/receiving explicit photos via the internet.
Reil was arrested on July 20 and arraigned on July 21 with the 10th District Court in Calhoun County.
In light of this case, the MSP Computer Crimes Unit is encouraging parents to speak to their children about the safe use of the internet. There are many resources available to parents to assist in keeping children safe online.
