COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their work session Thursday to bring forward to next weeks regular meeting their formal action on two November ballot proposals from the Community Action Agency and Branch County 911.
The C.A.A. proposal is for .15 of a mill per year for five years that would be used only for the Meals on Wheels program. The C.A.A. originally requested a proposal that would have asked for two-tenths of a mill but a lower amount was agreed to because of the economic conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Branch County 911 is looking to increase their monthly surcharge by a maximum of $2.52 per phone device which would make the total monthly cost at $2.94 per device. It would raise about $2-point-4 million annually and is not to go longer than six years.
911 Director Kurt Spalding said they are pursuing grants in order to lower the costs.
The money generated from the surcharge would be used for the 800 Megahertz system.
The approved ballot questions must be presented to the County Clerk by August 11.
