HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – By a majority vote, the Hillsdale County Democratic Party has formally endorsed the candidacy of Tamara Barnes of Coldwater for the 58th District Michigan State House seat.
Barnes was one of two Democrats running before Steven Sowards dropped out of the race in April after the filing deadline due to health concerns.
Both will be on the August 4 Democratic Primary ballot.
All of the Republicans candidates for the seat are from Hillsdale County. They are Andrew Fink, Adam Stockford, Andy Welden, and Daren Wiseley.
Republican Eric Leutheuser easily won re-election in 2018 over Barnes by a margin of 71-29 percent.
Leutheuser has to give up his State House seat at the end of the year as he is term limited.
The district covers Branch and Hillsdale counties.
