HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Despite Attorney General Dana Nessel calling it illegal and objections from the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, Hillsdale College held its in-person commencement on Saturday at Frank Muddy Waters Stadium.
Hillsdale College originally planned on holding commencement May 9, but postponed it due to the ongoing COVID-19 threat.
Admission to the outdoor commencement ceremony was by ticket only and it was closed to the public and members of the press.
The activities were held despite Michigan’s rising COVID-19 numbers, though seats were spread out on the football field, temperatures were taken, and masks were handed out.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Tim Parker told The Detroit News that his office has not enforced any of Governor Whitmer’s executive orders, and has no intention of starting to do so now.
Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency health officer Rebecca Burns told the Hillsdale Daily News last week that a mass influx of people from various regions of the country coming into Hillsdale risked widespread community exposure.
