UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City has announced the hiring of Scott Stevens as the next Union City Fire Department Chief.
Stevens has been serving as the Assistant Fire Chief in Union City and will take over the department on Saturday.
He will become just the fourth Union City Fire Chief in nearly 100 years.
Stevens joins Art Merchant, Bob Merchant and retiring Chief David Hughes as the people who have been in charge of the fire department since 1928.
He started with the Union City Fire Department in 1995 and left for a few years in the early 2000’s before returning again.
It was stated on the village’s Facebook page that Stevens has a wealth of training and experience, including being Firefighter I and II certified and a medical first responder.
He also works for Legg Lumber in Coldwater.
Hughes is stepping down as the Union City Fire Chief after he served in the position for the last 22 years but he intends to stay with the department.
