BETHEL TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 21-year-old man on Wednesday following an investigation into the alleged shooting of his German Shepard on June 10.
The Sheriff’s Department says Alex James Carr, who was living in Bethel Township at the time of the incident, turned himself in to deputies on Wednesday.
He was booked at the Branch County Jail after being charged by the Prosecutors Office with two counts of Animal Cruelty.
He was released after posting 10 percent of a $5,000 bond. A Branch County District Court arraignment has been scheduled for August 17.
The injured female dog named “Noel” is now in the care of Animal Aid of Branch County after being shot in the head. Animal Aid’s Sally Geer says she is working through the situation and is doing well.
According to court documents, Carr allegedly shot his dog after it had chewed on his child’s toys and clothes.
